ARTS PROGRAM

Week 1: June 22nd - 26th | Theme: The Artist's Identity • Art - Self-portraits, color psychology, & personal symbols • Skill Focus - Observation, color theory, & self-expression • Music - Rhythm & Personal “Theme Song” Composition • Students focus on steady beat vs. expressive rhythm, major vs. minor mood, tempo as personality, and dynamics. • Instruments - Drums, Piano, Ukulele, and Chorus • Field Trip - Gallery walk in Tribeca Week 2: June 29th - July 2nd | Theme: Fashion, Design & Printmaking • Art -Screen printing, jewelry making, wearable art, and logo design • Skill Focus - Design thinking, craftsmanship, and branding • Music - Fashion Show Soundtrack • Students explore how music enhances style, movement and confidence - like a fashion show soundtrack • Instruments - Drums, Piano, Ukulele, and Chorus • Field Trip - The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology Week 3: July 6th - 10th | Theme: Storytelling & Illustration • Art - Character design, comic strips, mixed media collage, and bookmaking • Skill Focus - Narrative structure, layout, & sequencing • Music - Creating Story Soundtracks • Students learn how music tells a story without words — mood shifts, tempo changes for action scenes, character themes, & beginning-middle-end structure in music. • Instruments - Drums, Piano, Ukulele, and Chorus • Field Trip - Gallery walk in Tribeca Week 4: July 13th - 17th | Theme: Sculpture & 3D Creations • Art - Papier mâché, cardboard architecture, and sculpture using recycled materials • Skill Focus - Form, structure, balance, spatial awareness, and collaboration • Music - Build the Beat: Layering & Musical Architecture • Students explore how music is built in layers; rhythm (drums), harmony (ukulele/piano), and melody (chorus). Just like constructing a sculpture. • Instruments - Drums, Piano, Ukulele, and Chorus • Field Trip - Gallery Walk with a focus on public sculpture & installations in TriBeCa Week 5: July 20th - 24th | Theme: Around the World Art • Art - Pattern-making, masks, textiles, and cultural symbolism. • Skill Focus - Pattern, repetition and cultural awareness • Music - Global Rhythms & Melodies • Students explore rhythm patterns and scales inspired by world traditions: call and response traditions, repeating rhythm cycles, and pentatonic scales. • Instruments - Drums, Piano, Ukulele, and Chorus • Field Trip - The Metropolitan Museum of Art Week 6: July 27th - 31st | Theme: Architecture & City Design • Art - Blueprint drawing, miniature buildings, and future city design • Skill Focus - Perspective, structure, and spatial planning • Music - City Soundscapes • Students turn city sounds into music - rhythm inspired by trains, traffic, footsteps, layering sounds, repetition like building patterns, and dynamics. • Instruments - Drums, Piano, Ukulele, and Chorus • Field Trip - Gallery Walk: The Oculus & 9/11 Memorial Week 7: August 3rd - 7th | Theme: Space & Light • Art - Galaxy painting, silhouette landscapes, glow art, & shadow studies • Skill Focus - Contrast, light vs. dark, and atmospheric effects • Music - Cosmic Sounds: Mood & Atmosphere • Students experiment with sound to create mystery and wonder. Slow tempo for floating feeling, echo effects, minor keys for mystery, and silence as space. • Instruments - Drums, Piano, Ukulele, and Chorus • Field Trip - Hayden Planetarium Week 8: August 10th - 14th | Theme: Invention Lab - Robots, Toys & STEAM • Art - Stop-motion animation, claymation, toy prototyping, and recycled sculpture • Skill Focus - Media arts, collaboration, and innovation • Music - Sound Effects & Tech-Inspired Beats • Students explore how machines might sound if they made music - syncopation, mechanical repetition, sound effects, and looping patterns. • Instruments - Drums, Piano, Ukulele, and Chorus • Field Trip - Gallery walk in Tribeca Week 9: August 17th - 21st | Theme: Natural Wonders -Dinosaurs, Animals, & Ecosystems • Art - Dioramas, texture painting, & animal movement studies • Skill Focus - Texture, habitat design, & storytelling through space • Music - Wild Rhythms • Students turn animal movement into rhythm and sound - focus on tempos, dynamics, texture, call and response • Instruments - Drums, Piano, Ukulele, and Chorus • Field Trip - American Museum of Natural History Week 10: August 24th - August 28th | Theme: Botanical & Still Life Studio • Art - Observational drawing, watercolor florals, botanical printmaking, and still life compositions • Skill Focus - Observation, shading, patience, detail, and tonal variation • Music - Musical Landscapes – Harmony & Flow • Students create calm, flowing compositions inspired by nature. Focus on dynamics, tempo, and blended harmonies across instruments. • Instruments - Drums, Piano, Ukulele, and Chorus • Field Trip - American Museum of Natural History Week 11: August 31st - September 4th | Theme: My Favorite Things • Art - Mixed Media Collage: personal inspiration board, memory art, and layered storytelling through images & textures. • Skill Focus - Reflection, composition, and synthesis of learned techniques • Music - My Soundtrack • Students reflect on their favorite styles, rhythms, and themes to create a collaborative performance piece. Small groups compose mini-songs that reflect their personalities and interests. • Instruments - Drums, Piano, Ukulele, and Chorus • Field Trip - Whitney Museum of American Art

Tuition is $650 (cash), $669.50 (credit)/week & $140 (cash), $144.20 (credit)/day. Prices are prorated to reflect the number of sessions your child will attend that week. SUMMER POLICIES: • Students wishing to withdraw from their current summer registration at Church Street School must present a written request stating the date and reasons for the withdrawal. • Refunds (minus classes taken and the non-refundable registration fee) will be given up to the 3rd day after beginning class. No refunds will be given after the 3rd day. • Students withdrawing prior to summer program start have an opportunity to convert their tuition to an in-house credit toward another class. • Credits must be applied before the end of the fiscal year (August 31) in which they are issued. • Credits can be applied toward the current semester, summer classes, prepaid tuition for future semesters, tickets for school events, or converted to a tax deductible donation. • Please note that no refunds will be given for missed sessions.

Church Street School for Music & Art's Summer Camp runs from Monday, June 22nd, 2026 - Friday, September 4th, 2026. Camp begins every morning at 9am, and dismissal is at 4pm. We offer for early drop-off at 8:30am and late pick-up at 5pm for an additional cost $15/ day each. Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate your child’s summer plans. Please note there will be no programming on Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day.

Tuition includes a rotating schedule of music & art classes including drumming, ukulele, chorus, and studio art. Plus performance opportunities, weekly field trips, and daily outdoor play in our neighborhood green spaces. Snacks will also be provided, however students should bring their own NUT FREE lunch.

Field trips happen on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Destinations include: walks around neighborhood art galleries, visits to NYC cultural destination like the American Museum of Natural History, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and other fun cultural locations around the city.

CSSMA's summer camp is for students ages 5 years - 7 years (Group I) and 8 years - 12 years (Group II). We also offer summer programs for students ages 3 - 5 yrs and 13 yrs to adult. Head to churchstreetschool.org/summer (churchstreetschool.org/summer)to learn more!
