Faculty Bios Toby Wine Toby Wine graduated in 1994 with a degree in Composition from the Manhattan School of Music, and has spent the ensuing years composing and arranging for a variety of ensembles, gigging as both a sideman (often with Church Street School’s own Noah Bloom) and leader, and writing numerous instructional books and articles for Cherry Lane Music Publishing. He spent three years as the music librarian for the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, worked behind the scenes preparing scores for avant-garde jazz great Ornette Coleman, and has served as arranger and musical director for a variety of jazz and cabaret vocalists. His writing can be heard on albums by Philip Harper (Muse), Ari Ambrose (Steeplechase), and Ian Hendrickson Smith (Sharp Nine). Toby has studied with Bob Mover, Ken Wessel, Edward Green, Bern Nix, and the late jazz greats Walter Davis Jr. and Manny Albam. He’s currently a member of the R&B/Salsa collective Melee and pianist/vocalist Scott Paterson’s group, Kojomodibo’s Son. |
