The Campaign for Church Street School: OUR MISSION
The Need
Since our founding, community leaders have identified Church Street School as a jewel in the cultural community of Downtown Manhattan. Enrollment in our programs increases every year by as much as 15 percent. Local schools have recorded an 84% increase in student enrollment, but many music and visual art programs are not only under-funded, they lack full-time arts educators. There is a critical need for community-based organizations to provide arts education.
The Solution
With its 18-year history of success in the neighborhood, Church Street School is uniquely poised to grow with the burgeoning downtown area. Currently we are forced to turn away many students because we lack the space to serve them. Our expansion into 6,000 additional square feet will allow us to dramatically increase the type and quantity of programs we offer. Our students will have access to new tools to extend their techniques and methods of art-making, as well as to expand into new forms like dance, theater, and film.
